Program Details: Five Techniques for Turning Tops
Just in time for the Oregon State Fair!!
Using basic spindle turning tools (skew, gouge, parting tool)
this session showcases Eric’s favorite techniques to create
five styles of playful and artistic finger spinning tops.
Attendees will learn simple sharpening techniques and
tool application to create ultra-clean cuts and textures.
While focused on creating playful pieces, this session is
packed with information and techniques applicable to all
spindle turning projects.

SKEW SKILLS: Making the Cut
In this session, you learn basic spindle turning with the skew,
simple sharpening techniques used to create a razor’s edge,
and methods to obtain an ultra-clean cut. You will experience
several exercises using biomechanics to increase tool control
and gain confidence at the lathe. This session will also showcase
skill-building projects; the egg and Eric's version of the finger-tip
spinning top. The experience of using the skew & the lessons
learned during this demo will expand your success with
ALL cutting tools!

Turning a Triple-Axis Raindrop: “Resilience” Series
In this session, you will learn the basic techniques Eric uses to
turn multi-axis raindrops, exploring the interaction of multiple
curves within a single sculptural piece. You will gain a deepened
understanding of basic multi-axis turning, how to create flowing
curves during intermittent cuts and the importance of biomechanics
for ultimate tool control. Time will also be spent exploring
embellishment techniques to enhance your sculptural pieces.
This session will inspire you to extend your artistic voice through
multi-axis turning!

August Sawdust Session
9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Program Details: Join your fellow turners to work through issues,
sharpen your tools, solve problems, complete projects, or just hang out and visit!
Please – to help out everyone who attends – WEAR YOUR CLUB NAMETAG!
The photo booth will be set up if you have nice pieces you would
like to have photographed and included in the club’s website gallery.
Experienced turners will be on hand to help with sharpening, turning
techniques, and finishing suggestions.
The session will begin at 9:00 a.m. and cleanup will start at about 12:30 p.m.
for a 1 p.m. end-of-session. Let's be courteous to our host!
