Member of the Month - 2006
Each month, one member is selected for special recognition based on his or her service to the club. To nominate someone for this honor, submit his/her name to the club President or Vice President, along with a short description of the reason the person should receive “Member of the Month” recognition. Current officers and board members do not qualify for this distinction.
“Members of the Month” selected
through 2007 and earlier were:
February 2007:
Walt Thies
Walt is a great turner, and
always has his hands busy in several activities.
We wanted to recognize his contributions upon
his retirement from the US Forest Service.

|
January 2007:
Jim Coon
Whenever something needs to be
done, you can always count on Jim Coon to be one
of the first to stand up and get busy.
Jim, thanks for all you do.

December 2006:
Sarah Letterman

Even though Sarah and her
husband Ed just joined our club recently, she
stepped forward and took on the role of club
secretary. We appreciate your service,
Sarah! |
|
November 2006:
Dale Larson

Although not actually a member
of our club, Dale comes down from the Portland
area every time we need him. He has
presented at our club multiple times, and not
only spent a day doing demos at the state fair,
but brought other turners along with him.
Thanks, Dale! |

|
October 2006:
Doug & Pat Smith

Doug & Pat graciously opened
their home and yard, hosting a very
enjoyable picnic. Thanks for a great
day! Several times, Doug has donated tool
rests, with the proceeds going to the club.
|
|
September 2006:
Rick Harris

Rick is always eager to do
more than is asked. He signed up for a
few shifts at the State Fair, and worked
several more than that. Thanks for all
you do, Rick!

|
August 2006:
Don Wadsworth

Don is always
generous with his time, and his shop.
He has demonstrated at our club at least
twice, and has hosted us - as
individuals and as a club - several
times. He always makes us feel
welcome, and is always eager to share
his knowledge with us.
We are proud to
declare Don Wadsworth to be an honorary
lifetime member of the Willamette Valley
Woodturners. |

July 2006: Pete Peterson

When the club purchased a mini-lathe for use in demos and sawdust sessions, Pete volunteered to build a stand for the lathe. It turned out great! This will make it very easy to use the lathe. Thanks, Pete!

|
June 2006: Ed Parker

In spite of several health challenges he has faced over the past few years, Ed just keeps on truckin’. We were so glad to see Ed be able to return to the club meeting in July! When he is able to attend, Ed takes great care of our club library.
|
|
May 2006: Richard Pucillo

Whatever needs doing,
Rich is always there front and center.
As if that wasn't enough, Rich bids
heavily during our annual holiday
auction - saving him from Christmas
shopping, and giving our club treasury a
very nice boost! |
|
 |
|
April 2006: Reed Gray

Reed has given two presentations on coring, showing us how to get the most out of our wood. Although he travels quite a ways to come to the meeting, Reed also contributes quite a bit of wood to our wood raffle, helping make the library the success it is.
|
|
March 2006: Jim Coon

Jim is always helping set up the meeting area and then helping put the chairs and tables back in place. In Ed Parker’s absence, Jim has also been taking care of the library. Jim has been there when we need help. Thanks Jim.

|
February 2006: Leigh Roberts

As our most senior member at 87, no one would blame Leigh if he wanted to slow down. But we don’t think he knows the meaning of those words. He’s still a great turner, and his segmented pieces are jaw-dropping. He’s always ready to show us younger folks how its done. You are an inspiration, Leigh!
|
|
January 2006: Jack Knight

We can’t say enough about Jack. He is one of the founding members of the club, and continues to do more than can be expected. From bringing wood for the raffle, to hosting picnics along with his great wife Margaret, and acting as mentor to so many of us. Thanks, Jack, for all you do!

December 2005: Nick Stagg & Doug Smith

At our our annual holiday meeting, we gave special recognition to two members who do so much, it’s impossible to even begin to list their contributions to the club. Nick and Doug, we are so honored to have you in our club. Thanks a million!
